Senior Professor Buddhi Marambe from the Faculty of Agriculture (University of Peradeniya) was removed from all positions he held at the Ministry of Agriculture, announced the Ministry on Tuesday (26) via a press statement.
Accordingly, he was removed from the expert committee to formulate a National Agriculture Policy, Sri Lanka Agriculture Sector Modernization Project, and the Smallholder Agribusiness Partnerships Programme.
The press statement noted that Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage had instructed Agriculture Secretary Senior Professor Udith Jayasinghe, to remove Senior Professor Buddhi Marambe from all positions with immediate effect.
It added that Professor Marambe was alleged to have carried out multiple programs against the former governments’ decisions to suspend glyphosate imports.
It went on to note that Professor Marambe had also made comments to rally the university fraternity, civil organization, and the general public against the government decision for eco-friendly agriculture practices.
