Former Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera has warned that the military coup in Myanmar is a red light for Sri Lanka.
"When military is brought into the corridors of civilian/administrative power, it’s inevitable they will end up wanting to take on the role of the Elections Commission as well as the judiciary in deciding validity of the people’s mandate. A red light for Sri Lanka from Myanmar!," Samaraweera said on Twitter.
Myanmar's military on Monday (01) seized power after detaining de-facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi and other top members of her governing party, triggering an avalanche of condemnation and a demand for the restoration of democracy in the coup-prone country from leaders and organisations across the world.
