Ven. Omalpe Sobhitha Thero said that the country is in the grip of a gang that sacrifices national resources for financial gains, privileges and top posts.
He made this statement while addressing the media recently on the government's proposal to offer the Eastern Container Terminal for foreign investors.
Ven. Sobitha Thero pointed out that there is no difference between the Eastern, Western, Northern and Southern Terminals and that they should be preserved for future generations.
He also noted that handing over the ECT operations to a foreign country would jeopardise national security.
"While ports in other nations are established in secluded locations, the Colombo Port is located in close proximity to the Presidential Secretariat, the Army Headquarters and the Central Bank. Therefore, allowing a foreign company to own a stake in such a key location would pose a threat to the country's national security," he said.
