A consignment of 500,000 doses of the India-manufactured Oxford-AstraZeneca COVISHIELD vaccine arrived in Sri Lanka a short while ago.
Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Gopal Baglay, on behalf of the Indian Government, handed over the vaccines to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the Bandaranaike International Airport premises.
Head of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 Vaccination Plan and National Development and Presidential Advisor Lalith Weeratunga said the government will start the vaccination programme tomorrow (29), adding that priority would be given to vaccinate 250,000 frontline healthcare workers.
