The State Minister of Education Reforms Susil Premajayantha said that the project to convert 1,000 schools that are owned by the Provincial Councils into national schools will be implemented in stages.
Minister Premajayantha made this observation in Parliament in response to a question raised by SJB MP SM Marikkar.
He said that in the first phase, 123 schools will be converted into national schools. Five schools in the Colombo District will also be included in the first phase, he said.
However, he said that the personal files of the teachers employed at the schools that are to be converted into national schools, need to be obtained by the State Service from the Provincial State Service, adding that this process takes some time.
