Minister of Highways Johnston Fernando has stated that he will personally visit every district in Sri Lanka to monitor the progress of the 100,000 km road development project launched in accordance with the "Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour' national policy framework of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The Minister expressed these views while participating in a meeting held at the Ministry of Highways.
Fernando stated that he hopes to develop 100,000 km of high quality highways in the country before the end of his tenure as the Minister of Highways.
He instructed officials to expedite the repair work of dilapidated culverts, bridges, drainage systems, road signs etc. on rural roads which have been identified to be carpeted and developed by the 100,000 km project. The main objective of the 100,000 km road development project is to improve dilapidated rural roads which would help to connect the village and the city.
The Minister further said that he would meet and discuss with the respective residents and take immediate action to repair rural roads.
