Former parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa has strongly condemned the assault by Sri Lanka Police on a group of peaceful protesters on Tuesday (9).
The Prime Minister's son has called for a probe into the incident and observed that the recent behaviour of some members of the Police should not tarnish the track record of the entire Police Department and the great job done during COVID -19 pandemic

Meanwhile, former finance minister Mangala Samaraweera, who just days ago stepped down from parliamentary politics, said that the Police attack on a peaceful protest was a brazen display of brute force and inquired whether this was part of the 'virtuous and just' society as envisaged by president Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
"Wake up Sri Lanka; a nightmare is unfolding," Samaraweera observed in a twitter message.
President Rajapaksa had established a Presidential Task Force consisting of all military and police personnel to build a “secure country and a disciplined, virtuous, and lawful society a week ago.
