The Presidential Commission of inquiry (PCoI) probing irregularities that have taken place in the government since 2015 has requested Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to appear before it to record a statement.
Accordingly, the Prime Minister is to appear before the Commission on Thursday (12) morning to provide a statement on the inquiry being carried out on a building rented out by the Agricultural Ministry.
The Government has been accused of corruption when taking on rent a new building for the Agriculture Ministry.
The Agriculture Ministry vacated its Battaramulla building in 2015 after the Prime Minister presented a Cabinet proposal to use the building for the activities of 17 Parliamentary Sectoral Oversight Committees.
The Ministry then took on rent a new building by paying a monthly rent of Rs 21.5 million.
