President Maithripala Sirisena has informed the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) probing the Easter Sunday attacks that he would appear before the Committee on the 20th of this month.
PSC Chairman Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri says the President had informed the Committee of the scheduled date.
According to the Deputy Speaker, the PSC would not be holding its sittings at the usual committee room in the parliamentary complex when the President attends.
“The PSC will hear President Sirisena’s testimony at the Presidential Secretariat,” Kumarasiri observed.
The PSC has however not yet reached a decision on whether the session would be open to the media or not.
Kumarasiri says a decision on the matter would be taken after discussing it with the President.
Meanwhile, the PSC is also looking at seeking parliamentary approval to extend its term. The Committee is looking at getting its term extended by two weeks.
