The AG’s department has filed charges at the High Court under Section 198 of the Penal Code.
Thajudeen was initially thought to have died in a motor accident near Shalika Grounds in Narahenpita on May, 2012. However, a magisterial inquest revealed that the former national player had been murdered.
The Court had then issued orders to apprehend the suspects believed to have been implicated in the incident.
Senior DIG Senanayake, Former Narahenpitiya Police Crimes OIC Sumith Champika, and former Colombo Chief Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) Professor Ananda Samarasekara had been named as suspects but were subsequently released on bail.
However, the Attorney General filed charges against the former Senior DIG alone.
